Part III Mobilize Energy 158

Part III – Mobilize your energy

“Where is thy native simple heart
Devote to Virtue, Fancy, Art?
Warm, energetic, chaste, sublime!”

- William Collins, The passion

Conversation with a Coach
Discussing energy

Collin: It is time for you to take the next step to make your singing really alive, touching and interesting. Now you have the voice. I want you to mobilize your emotional energy so that everybody who listens to you understands the meaning of the song even if they wouldn’t understand the language you use. I want you to express the text in a way that makes a difference. I also want you to take responsibility for learning the whole piece and not only your own notes.
Cristina: OK. That sounds like I must put more effort into studying the text and the music. So far I have mostly concentrated on making my voice work. Seems to me that the task I am facing is meticulous and takes a lot of time.
Collin: Yes, it is the unending search for perfection, but the work will reward you abundantly. The beauty of the poem and the music will open up for you and the energy of passion and enthusiasm will take you to a new level as a singer. You have come this far, you have built yourself an instrument.
