IX Dynamic Attunement 197
Conversation with a Coach
Discussing releasing of the old
Collin: This summer I should go for the fifteenth time to teach in a summer course, I don’t really feel like going.
Cristina: Then don’t, why should you?
Collin: Because they need me and it can be quite fun too, to meet all these people I know.
Cristina: They don’t need you, there are other pianists with sufficient competence to teach the summer students.
Collin: But it is so hard to say no, I’ve known these people for years.
Cristina: I know, but they will understand that you have different situations in your life. You must go on with your life and let go of things that are not serving your base-pair.
Collin: You are right, I’ll phone and say that I’m not going. I think though that I must help them to find somebody else to replace me and that can be difficult, people are so busy nowadays.
Cristina: Learn to leave things behind. It is not your business to find a pianist for them. If you have somebody in your mind give them his or her number, that’s enough.
Collin: It is not easy, I’m not so good in saying nay. But I know I don’t want to go and I try to do as you said, say ‘no’ kindly and leaving the whole thing behind me.
