Epilogue

Conversation with a Coach
Discussing the action-learning process

Cristina: …sings “Höstkväll” by Jean Sibelius
Collin: I don’t know about the book but you have learned to sing.
Cristina: Thank you. I am quite happy about my singing too although I know there is still much to learn.
Collin: Yeah, well, learning never ends, but it is good to notice the milestones during the journey.
Cristina: It has been an interesting journey. We began the introspective study and to rehearse for our recital almost three years ago. There has been interesting moments of learning during the process; both happy moments and moments of frustration and depression.
Collin: Remember when after the recital I introduced you to the Italian song repertoire you didn’t at all like and you were going on with the action-learning process only with the power of your will? Then you made progress so fast that we had to change the repertoire quite often for you to be able to leave the old mistakes behind.
Cristina: Yes, I remember, and if hadn’t trusted you so totally I wouldn’t have done it. Now, afterwards, I am grateful that such great trust was created between us. I hope that everybody who is coached can find that kind of trust with his or her coach.
Collin: I think an important new beginning was that occasion when you sang Christmas songs for an audience. Your skill was clearly measured then and you sang beautifully and correctly. It allowed us to proceed to more demanding repertoire, like the “Höstkväll”.
Cristina: I agree. There were peak-moments and I also had many transitions during the process. Not very nice, because each time I felt that now I had lost my voice and really – there were times I could not produce a tone. Luckily the quantum leap eventually saved me and my singing improved every time. Looking backwards it is easy to say that the Doublehelix worked for me exactly as we have described it in this book. We have experienced its each phase and element. The winning learngrams we have encoded into my singing are now manifesting in beautiful sound. Thank you, Collin.
